DO YOU HAVE A STORY TO TELL?

I work as a features writer for a company called Medavia, which researches and writes features for a range of publications.  We deal with the features pages of national newspapers as well as weekly and monthly women’s magazines.

I’m keen to speak to a woman who has been addicted to prescription drugs as I think it’s a subject which people need to have greater awareness of. But I’m more than happy to hear from anyone who thinks they may have a story to tell, relating to any of the areas No Panic deals with.

Without wishing to be too prescriptive, we find stories told from a woman’s point of view are easier to pitch given the nature of the publications we work with.

Please see our website – www.medavia.co.uk – for further information.  We pride ourselves on our sensitivity and ability to write copy which people are pleased with.

If you just want a further chat feel free to call me on 0117 9858 709 or 07815 004425.

DOES YOUR SPOUSE / PARTNER HAVE OCD?

ARE YOU CURRENTLY LIVING WITH YOUR SPOUSE / PARTNER WHO HAS OCD OR OBSESSIONS AND / OR COMPULSIONS?

(If you have OCD or obsessions and / or compulsions please pass this information on to your spouse / partner)

Research study: Exploring people’s responses to spouses’/ partners’ obsessions and / or compulsions

My name is Rachel Orr. I am a trainee clinical psychologist from Lancaster University, completing this project as part of my doctorate qualification. I would be really interested in hearing from anyone (over the age of 18) who is living with a spouse / partner (also aged 18 or over) who has OCD or obsessions and / or compulsions. To take part, you will have been living together in the same household for at least one year.

I am interested in interviewing people about how they respond to their spouses’ or partners’ obsessions / behaviours.  I would be really interested in hearing from people about their experiences of this.

If you are interested, it would involve you initially completing a short questionnaire to tell me a little about your spouse’s / partner’s behaviour. You are not required to give any identifying information about them at any point. We will look at this questionnaire to see if your spouse / partner has significant obsessions and / or compulsions for it to be suitable to include you in the study. You could then be interviewed by me for approximately one hour about your involvement and responses to your spouse’s / partner’s obsessions and / or compulsions. The interview could take place at a convenient place near your home.

At no point will I need to speak to or be given any identifying information about your spouse / partner (who has obsessions and / or compulsions or OCD).

If you would like further information or might be interested in taking part please contact me on 01524 592970 or alternatively email me at r.orr@lancaster.ac.uk

Please note that participation in this research will only take place up until November 2008. Therefore if you want to take part in this study please contact me before then.

This study has been approved by Lancaster University Ethics Committee.

Thank You

Compulsive Hoarding and Relationships

 By Emma Bodfield

My colleagues and I are interested in compulsive hoarding and are looking for volunteers to take part in an on-line questionnaire about relationships and hoarding behaviours. We are interested in attachment styles (i.e. how you typically relate to people) and social support (i.e. do you have people around you that support and help you) in people who compulsively hoard.

Despite a growing body of literature, there remains a paucity of research in this interesting and important area and we need your help!

The questionnaire will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. We are looking for volunteers both with and without hoarding behaviours.

Our website www.compulsivehoarding.net contains information on our research project and a link to the online questionnaire.

This research forms part of a DclinPsy at Sheffield University and is supervised by Dr. Stephen Kellett.

This research has received ethical approval from the departmental research ethics committee and has university sponsorship / governance in place.

HOW TO TAKE PART IN THE RESEARCH
If you would like to take part in our research and complete a short questionnaire please go to:

Are you a parent with a diagnosis of OCD?

This research aims to consider the experiences of children who have a parent with OCD and the way in which they understand their parent’s difficulties. We are looking for young people aged between 12 and 18 years who have a parent with OCD to take part.

Relatively little attention has been given to the experiences of the children of people with OCD. A good way of finding out about these experiences is to ask young people themselves. The hope is that this information will give a clearer idea of how best to support these young people if they need it, and in doing so, offer parents some peace of mind.

What will happen if my child takes part?

We will arrange the best time and place to meet for a one-off interview which will last for around one hour. At the end of the interview, if you or your child have any questions, I will try to answer them before I leave. I will also bring information leaflets about other support available if needed. A summary of the final report will be provided at the end of the project.

Ethical issues

This project has received full ethical clearance from the North Somerset and South Bristol Research Ethics Committee (reference 08/H0106/16). Further information regarding consent, confidentiality and data protection is available in a leaflet, provided on request.

Are there any risks involved?

We hope your child will enjoy taking part in the research. Sometimes people can get upset when talking about difficult experiences. If your child becomes upset we will stop the interview and talk about this. I will also leave information about support if you would like.

What do we do if we want to take part?

If you have read this information and decided you are interested, please contact me for further information or a leaflet. At this point you can still decide not to take part. If you and your child decide you would like to take part, we will arrange a suitable time to meet to complete consent forms and conduct the interview.
