The Little Book of Thinking Errors
A Self help guide to Changing Unhelpful Thoughts
By Kevin M. O’Doherty
The author of The Little Book of Thinking Errors, Kevin O’Doherty began his career as a psychology lecturer and then moved on to becoming a health psychologist and cognitive behaviour therapist. Currently he has a private CBT practice and is a training manager for a
national mental health charity based in London.
This really is a tiny book, measuring around 6” x 4”, perfect to slip into your bag, pocket or work desk.It was written because is there is no current, compact book of this kind that summarised most of the thinking errors that come up in clinical practice. I can see that it would be a great help to any anxiety sufferers but also to therapists and other health and social care professionals.
The aim of The Little Book of Thinking Errors is to increase awareness of these common errors and offer a range of techniques which can be used to replace unhelpful thinking. Many of the thinking errors are listed such as predicting the future negatively, demanding certainty, black and white thinking, catastrophising, using ‘what ifs’, double standards and ‘self put downs’. Do you recognise any of these? For each of these thinking errors, examples are given with suggestions as to how these thinking errors could be changed, to look at things in a more positive and realistic way.
Imagine having this little book in your pocket at a social occasion, an interview, when facing new challenges? Just find the section that is right for you and help is at hand, to find out and identify what your thinking error is and how to put it right?
I found The Little Book of Thinking Errors to be an excellent book, a valuable tool to add to your tool box. A tiny book that contains a great deal of wisdom, easy to carry, easy to read, a real friend and comfort. It would also make a great gift for a friend or loved one having a difficult time with depression or anxiety. Highly recommended.
